The Finished Ceramic Bird Wall In The Bedroom

I bought these ceramic birds on Amazon, and I’ve had some of them for a few years. They have been hanging on a wall in our living room to the right of the cased opening between the living room and the kitchen.

I tested out a few arrangements using my photo editing software and narrowed it down to two — one organic arrangement and one more symmetrical arrangement. I decided to go with the organic arrangement, much to my surprise. And then I cut out 48 paper birds, taped them to the wall, and then tweaked the design until I got it just like I wanted them.

That gave me the exact placement for the nails so that I wouldn’t end up with random nail holes in my grasscloth wallpaper.

I got two of the ceramic birds on the wall and then almost chickened out because I wansn’t sure if I’d like the 3-D aspect of the arrangement on this wall. I almost changed course and decided to put them on the headboard wall and wrapped around to the side walls by the curtains.

But after living with those two birds on the wall for a day, I decided that I actually loved the 3D look of them from this vantage point, so I decided to press on.

And I’m so glad I did because this bird wall turned out even better than I had imagined in my mind. I realize that people with bird phobias might have a panic attack walking into our bedroom. 😀 When I’m showing people around our house in real life, I’ll have to warn people that if they have a bird phobia, they might want to avoid our bedroom or avert their eyes as they walk past this wall.

But y’all know me. I can’t get enough birds. I’d cover everything in our house with birds, trees, and flowers if I could get away with it. So this is definitely “me”.

I’ve always loved non-standard “artwork” and things that have a dimensional quality to them, so I’m pretty excited about how this turned out.

I like that it’s unexpected and not just another gallery wall.

I’m also very aware that this type of thing isn’t everyone’s cup of tea. And that’s okay. 🙂

And in the end, the thing that I was the most concerned about — the 3D aspect of the bird wall from this particular vantage point — turned out to be one of my favorite things about it. I like that it grabs attention and piques curiosity and draws the person in so that they can get a better view of the wall.

So that project is done. I was so nervous about putting so many nail holes in the wall, but I got all of them in the right place on the first try. I also removed a couple of the nails to see just how visible the nail holes are, and they’re not really visible at all. I didn’t use the nails that came with the birds, though. Those were overkill and way too big. I used some much smaller nails that I had on hand so that they would do less damage and leave much smaller holes in the wall.
